Expanded Employment Protections for Conditions Related to Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Related Medical Conditions

On June 25, 2015, Governor Gina M. Raimondo signed into law an amendment to the state Fair Employment Practices Act which expanded the protections afforded to employees and job applicants on the basis of "conditions related to pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions". The new law is effective immediately

1) "conspicuously posted at an employer's place of business in an area accessible to employees"; and

2) given by employers to: (a) all new employees upon commencement of employment; (b) all existing employees within 120 days of June 25, 2015; and (c) any employee who notifies the employer of her pregnancy within ten days of such notification.
